Walking in the Alps is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that all passionate hikers, irrespective of age, will wish to do at least once in their lifetime. For many, it poses the ultimate challenge and the most majestic scenery that more than compensates for the physical effort. The window of opportunity is nonetheless a restricted one and, unless you are snowshoeing, most people will find themselves hiking in the holiday peak periods of July and August.

Walking Holidays in France has two walking tours in the Alps that we believe you will want to consider. They are:
a. Best of Tour du Mont Blanc/TMB
- Exertion level: challenging ascents & descents [C]
- Tour length: 6 days, averaging. 5 hours, 8.5 miles-13 kms, 700 ms altitude gain, 800 ms descent per day
- Accommodation: 7 nights in a mix of hotels, auberges and B&B, with one night in a chalet- refuge with hot showers & restaurant
- Available: any day, July to mid-September
- Tour commences: Champex, in Switzerland.
- Exertion level: moderate walking [M]
- Tour length: 3 days, av. 7.5 miles/11 kms p/day
- Accommodation: 4 nights in 2* hotels & one chalet-refuge
- Available: any day, July to mid-Sept.
- Tour commences: Argentière, near Chamonix.
